Beat the cold and sadness during the flu with herbal remedies

Our approach to colds and Influenza is comprehensive and holistic. Just as in our broader and more comprehensive health and wellness programs, it is best to look at the whole person, taking into account many different aspects healthcare and welfare nourish and support the body's own natural means of keeping himself well.
If you are interested in an approach more natural to colds and flu and take better care of your whole you should know:
Over the counter medications that are designed to eliminate the symptoms of cold ease congestion – stop coughing, soothe a sore throat – actually interfere with the body's protective immune response. The condition may seem to improve due to the concealment of symptoms, but in reality all that has happened is that the body of the natural immune response has been reduced. Over the counter cold remedies do nothing to combat cold viruses or increase the immune response that may have little effect on the duration of colds.
Of the five antihistamines used to treat colds, research shows that only one of them really can help dry a runny nose.
Researchers have found that prescription medicines can have no benefit for preschool children.
The Decongestants can produce side effects like nervousness and insomnia.
The mucus, tears and saliva are all saturated with IgA antibodies. Mucus is a substance genetically antibiotic that contains antibodies specific for current infection. So when you take an over the counter decongestant that dries secretions mucus during a cold or flu may be the reduction of immune response and contribute to extend the duration of their infection. It is better to take substances that thin and liquefy the mucus and keep it flowing freely with plenty of fluids.
Herbs like licorice can deal with the excess mucus through a wetting action, loosen mucus and make it flow more easily outside the body. Marshmallow and slippery elm are two other herbs that can help do this.
Echinacea and Seal Gold is probably the most commonly recommended herbs for colds and flu in the U.S.:
Clinically Echinacea is generally considered as an important herb to work with the flu, although it is often used as an auxiliary herb. Several studies have shown that echinacea can be particularly useful at the beginning of a cold or the flu. If time is taken in appropriate doses can help to tackle a cold or the flu.
Once the cold is well established, however, Echinacea by itself is not the most effective approach herbal. After the cold or flu has taken hold of Echinacea is still useful in combination with other herbs and helps shorten the duration and severity of the infection. By itself Echinacea does not usually knock a cold or the flu.
Taking the Gold Seal the early stages of a cold or flu may actually worsen the condition of dry mucous membranes. This inhibits the mucus, saturated with antibodies to fight bacteria viruses or other microbes, to work.
Clinically Goldenseal is used for subacute and chronic infections of the mucous membranes, but it is usually think it is appropriate for use in the acute phase.
Goldenseal acts as a cleanser and anti-inflammatory. It may be useful in very specific occasions in doses too a cold specific. But not a single study showing that the works of goldenseal as a cold fighter.
Even better cold and flu herbs:
Black elder is another traditional herbal remedy that has been shown to have a good effect on the flu. A recent clinical trial showed that a preparation of black old man ended flu cases within three days and also boosted the immune system responses. Oregon grape can be used as a substitute for contemporary Goldenseal and may be even better than echinacea for use with the common cold.
Mint contains compounds that can relax and open airways congested sinuses and nasal passages.
Ginger appears to fight inflammation, and pain. It also seems to act as an expectorant and has warming effects which can be useful if refrigerated.
Yarrow fights inflammation and muscle spasms and promotes perspiration. It has long been used against colds and flu.
Thyme is an expectorant and appears to combat microbes. Its flavonoids may help reduce smooth muscle spasm that can help open airways.
Mullen is an emollient mucilagous containing substances that coat and soothe irritated lining of the airways. It can help loosen coughs and combating the virus.
Most herbal remedies natural
St. John's Wort has been shown in test tube studies to inhibit virus influenza A and parainfluenza virus but not rhinovirus (cold virus). Osha has traditionally been used in the Rocky Mountains in the most important plant for treatment respiratory infections. Osha is widely used to treat colds, flu and bronchial infections. The tincture or tea is antibacterial.
Boneset is used as a folk remedy for flu. Traditionally, Boneset was used as an important resource for flu, fevers, and as a tonic. It has been used to treat both acute and chronic. In a study of immune-stimulating polysaccharides in Boneset proved to be ten times more potent than Echinacea polysaccharides.
A herbal bath can be an effective remedy to relieve cold symptoms and increased the immune response. It may be useful to root. During the bath essential oils of the herbs are released by hot water. These oils are believed to be absorbed through the pores of the skin and nose and mouth mucous membranes. Absorption through the mucous membranes may bring the oils in contact with upper respiratory tract where they are able to exert their antibacterial effects.
